The fork latch can be padlocked, although it would not prevent a thief with pliers from loosening the U-bolt. The inside of the fork is approximately 3 1/2 inches, and the maximum gap between the fence gate and post for it to lock is two inches. Overall, this Heavy Duty Fork Latch is a durable and long-lasting solution for any gate attachment needs.
