The special surface finish on the ball provides sufficient friction to keep the camera in place, but it does make the movement of the ball less smooth than desired. One feature that stands out in this product is the ability to fix the arm in place using a hex wrench. This makes it possible to securely use the arm even when carrying heavy equipment.
