  • Question: What is the gloss level of this wood finish?

    Answer: This wood finish has the highest gloss level offered by Waterlox.
  • Question: Can it be used with Waterlox Low VOC Formulations?

    Answer: No, it should not be used with Waterlox Low VOC Formulations.
  • Question: What is the recommended way to apply this wood finish?

    Answer: It can be applied with brush, lambswool applicator, cloth roller or spray.
  • Question: How many square feet does this cover?

    Answer: One quart covers 125 sq ft
  • Question: Do I need to use the Waterlox original sealer finish before I use this?

    Answer: Most Waterlox products can be used over dewaxed shellac. Thin cuts of dewaxed shellac used to seal oily woods should work fine under all products. Penetrating Waterlox products should not be used over thicker coats of shellac. Waxed shellacs should be removed completely as the wax may cause adhesion issues.
  • Question: Is this product food safe, i.e., could you use it safely on butcher block that will be used as a cutting board?

    Answer: According to information I found on various sites, it's food contact safe. But should not be used on cutting surfaces.
  • Question: Does this have real tung oil? or it's just labeled as a 'tung oil finish'.

    Answer: It is labeled as 100% tung oil
  • Question: Does this product come in pints?

    Answer: Smallest I've found is a quart. It's pricey but the finish is spectacular.
  • Question: Do you have Waterlox original gloss in gallons?

    Answer: I have never seen it in gallons. Not sure.
  • Question: Can I seal with Howard's first?

    Answer: Don't know about 'Howard's', but I used Waterlox Original for the first several coats on both of the projects referenced in my earlier response. I would highly recommend staying in the Waterlox product line.
  • Question: I noticed two different products. Is this a necessary two-step process? Also, is there color in it? Or do I need to stain first?

    Answer: No, it is only a one-step process. I did apply more coats for a better finished product, however. It does not contain stain, that must be done and completely dried before applying the finish.
  • Question: Do you cut this before you put it on and what do you cut it with? Also, do you sand in between coats?

    Answer: I did not 'cut in' before applying the finish, and used just a plain foam brush. The product does not require sanding between coats, however, I did use steel wool to smooth out any tiny air bubbles. It's a great, easy product to work with.

The product does not contain stain, so staining must be done before applying the finish. Overall, it is a great, easy-to-use product.
