The Zoo Med ReptiSun 10.0 Mini Compact Fluorescent Bulb is easy to install and can be used with Zoo Med's Naturalistic Terrarium Hoods or Mini Deep Dome Lamp Fixtures. The choice of fixture will determine the correct distance for optimal UVB exposure to your reptile's basking site. If you opt for Zoo Med's Naturalistic Terrarium Hoods, you can position the lamp horizontally over the terrarium.
The 12" hood can accommodate one ReptiSun 10.0 UVB Mini Compact Fluorescent Lamp, while the 18" hood can hold one ReptiSun 10.0 UVB Mini Compact Fluorescent Lamp and one daylight blue or nightlight red heat lamp. These hoods are designed to rest on top of terrariums with a screen cover. For use with the Mini Deep Dome Lamp Fixtures, the polished aluminum finish inside the reflector enhances UVB penetration in your terrarium. The fixture must be securely suspended above the terrarium using the attached metal hanger near the ceramic socket.
To ensure safe suspension, Zoo Med's adjustable Reptile Lamp Stand is recommended. It's important to note that screen covers on terrariums can reduce the amount of UVB that reaches your reptile's basking site. The finer the screen mesh, the more UVB is blocked or filtered. Always ensure that the lamp fixture is securely suspended to prevent it from falling into the enclosure. To determine the correct setup for your reptile, refer to the application chart provided.
The recommended operating range for the ReptiSun Terrarium Hood is 6 to 9 inches, while the Mini Deep Dome Lamp Fixtures should be positioned 5 to 8 inches away from the basking site. Creating an appropriate temperature and UVB gradient will allow your reptile to adjust their distance for heat and UVB exposure. It is recommended to replace the bulb after 12 months of use to ensure continued beneficial UVB output.
