Carter Fuel Systems Mechanical Fuel Pumps M4004 Editorial Review
The Carter Fuel Systems Mechanical Fuel Pump System (M4004) has received a mixed reception from users, reflecting a blend of installation challenges and performance issues. Customers noted that the fuel inlet and outlet were positioned differently compared to the OEM components, which required some adjustments during installation. While some users were able to adapt the pump to their systems, others faced significant setbacks due to excessive fuel pressure, reporting levels reaching 15 psi, while the ideal requirement was 5 psi. This discrepancy caused operational difficulties, particularly in applications that could not accommodate such high pressure. Moreover, reliability emerged as a critical concern, with one notable instance of the pump ceasing to function after just one mile of use on a 3.3-liter 6-cylinder engine. This points to potential quality control issues that may leave users dissatisfied, particularly those looking for a plug-and-play solution for their classic vehicles. In summary, while the Carter M4004 may function adequately in some installations, its performance and reliability have raised concerns among users, suggesting that potential buyers should approach this product with caution, particularly if they have specific fuel pressure requirements. **
