What is the Decal Setting Solution-Micro Scale Micro Sol 102 and Micro Set 101 used for?

The Decal Setting Solution-Micro Scale Micro Sol 102 and Micro Set 101 are essential for applying decals effectively on model surfaces. Micro Sol is designed to soften decals, allowing them to conform to minor surface details, while Micro Set helps the decals adhere better and minimizes the chances of silvering or lifting. These products are ideal for model builders seeking to achieve a professional finish, particularly when working with intricate designs or uneven surfaces.

How do I properly apply Micro Set and Micro Sol?

To use Micro Set, first apply a small amount to the area where the decal will be placed. Once the decal is in position, apply Micro Sol over the decal to encourage it to settle into surface details. This process helps the decal take on the contours of the model's structure, resulting in a seamless appearance. For best results, make sure the surface is clean, and work carefully to avoid wrinkles for a flawless finish.

Can I use Micro Set and Micro Sol on all types of decals?

Yes, Micro Set and Micro Sol can be used with a variety of decal types, including water-slide and vinyl decals. They are particularly effective with water-slide decals, where the adhesion and conformability provided by the solutions can enhance the overall look. However, always check the compatibility with specific decal brands or types to ensure optimal results.

Is it necessary to use both Micro Set and Micro Sol?

While both Micro Set and Micro Sol are beneficial in the decal application process, they serve different purposes. Micro Set is primarily for preparing the surface and helping the decal adhere, while Micro Sol focuses on softening the decal for a better fit. For the best results, using both solutions is recommended, particularly for complex surfaces.

Can these solutions be used on painted surfaces?

Absolutely, Micro Set and Micro Sol can be safely used on painted surfaces. In fact, they work to enhance the adhesion of decals over painted models and reduce the risk of bubbling or lifting. Ensure that the paint is fully cured before application for optimal results, as this will help maintain the integrity of both the paint and the decal.

What are some tips for preventing decal silvering when using these solutions?

To prevent decay silvering, ensure the surface is smooth and clean before applying the decal. Use a generous amount of Micro Set to help the decal lay flat and adhere properly. After applying Micro Sol, avoid touching the decal or applying pressure until it dries completely. Applying a clear coat once dry can also add an extra layer of protection against silvering.

How long does it take for Micro Sol to dry after application?

Micro Sol typically dries in about 10 to 15 minutes, but visually assessing its drying state is important. The drying time may vary based on environmental conditions, such as humidity and temperature. It’s advisable to allow a longer drying period for larger decals or during high humidity to ensure a complete and effective adhesion.

Can I mix Micro Set and Micro Sol with other products?

Mixing Micro Set and Micro Sol with other products is generally not recommended, as it may lead to unpredictable results and affect adhesion. For the best outcomes, use them as directed and in conjunction with compatible materials designed for model building and decal applications.
